A. Tsagas Furs offers complete fur storage services in our climate-controlled, secure cold storage facility. Quality Fur garments need to be conditioned every other year and professionally cleaned once each year. The best treatment includes a glazing and cold storage during extended periods of non use.
Insist that your Furs be conditioned and cleaned only by the furrier method of pelt massage. This is the only, complete and safe way to clean your valuable Furs.
Fur crocking is oxidation of the dye used on a Fur, causing the dye to discolor or come off. Often what looks like crocking is merely an accumulation of dust or cosmetics; therefore, having the Fur conditioned and cleaned will completely remove this.
Conditioning - most Fur troubles arise from improper care of the skin of the Fur. The skin, often called the leather, undergoes a highly technical process which is designed to preserve the pelt and its oil content. The oil content of the skin determines both the life of a Fur and its appearance as well. If the oil from the leather is lost, the Fur will become brittle, dull, and lusterless. To ensure a longer life for the leather, it will be necessary to replenish this oil.
This oil content gives the skin both pliability and elasticity and preserves and adds to the strength of the leather. Under the right conditions these oils remain in the skin for many years, but if the Fur is abused they may be drained from the skin, thus causing the leather to become hard and brittle, and the Fur itself to become dull and almost valueless.

Fur Care Tips 1. Always hang your fur on a broad-shoulder hanger, never on a wire hanger. Leave enough room in the closet so the fur is not crushed.
2. Never hang your fur in a plastic or rubber-lined bag. Plastic prevents air from circulating, which can dry out the leather in your fur coat. When traveling, store your fur in a cloth garment bag provided by your furrier.
3. If your fur gets wet, shake it out and hang it to dry in a well-ventilated room. Avoid direct heat or radiators, which can damage both fur and leather. After your fur is dry, shake it again. Most furs will take some rain and snow far better than a wool or other winter coat will. If the fur is soaked through, however, take it immediately to your fur retailer for proper treatment. Never comb or brush the fur. Do not use a blow dryer to dry a wet fur.
4. Never attempt to mothproof fur yourself. Home treatments are no substitute for professional cleaning and storage.
5. Avoid spraying perfume or hair spray onto your fur.
6. Always store your fur during warm weather with your furrier - never at a dry cleaner. Your furrier is equipped with temperature, humidity and light-controlled storage facilities to protect fur.
7. Have fur cleaned annually by a fur specialist.
8. Have small rips or tears repaired immediately by your furrier. This will prevent more expensive repairs later.
9. Avoid leaving a fur hanging in bright sunshine. Intense light can cause the fur to oxidize or change color.
10. Avoid sitting on your fur coat on long drives. Furs don't do well with friction or crushing, both of which they experience in your car. Use common sense when sliding into the seat, so you're not too hard on your fur. To avoid a telltale flattened bottom print on your fur, don't sit on it if possible or at least not on the same spot consistently. Shake out any spots like that on your fur when you exit your vehicle. On long drives, it is recommended that you take off your fur and wear it over you like a blanket, if you need to keep warm.
